Rights chief slams Curtin detention centre

Australia's Human Rights Commissioner has condemned the Curtin detention centre in Western Australia, saying many of the asylum seekers there are "dying from the inside out" in poor conditions.

"This is a terrible day for free speech in this country," Andrew Bolt said outside court.

They found out that not only was he pretending to be a sex worker, he was also plagiarising foreign romantic stories and passing them off as his own.

"Free speech means the right of people to say what you don't like, not just the right of people to say what you do like," Mr Abbott said.

Perhaps the nail in the coffin for the good-looking duo was spending their sixth wedding anniversary apart.

Outside court, Detective Superintendent Doug Fryer said it was a good result.

He said his preliminary view was that the Herald-Sun should publish a notice in print and online, but ordered both sides to discuss what orders the court should make.

The white paper will consider the current and future course of economic, political and strategic change in Asia - including China, India Japan, Korea and the major ASEAN nations.

The case against Dale collapsed as a result of his death.

Schools change national anthem

Some private Christian schools are singing an alternative version of the national anthem which promotes religious values and talks of Christ.

Screw China, says Donald Trump

Donald Trump has advised Australia to "screw" China by raising its commodity prices.

Clashes escalate in Yemen after crackdown

Ever wonder what it would be like to orbit the Earth at a really high rate of speed? Well, wonder no more.

ACCUSED people smuggler Ahmad Ahmad has pleaded not guilty in a Darwin court to bringing 49 asylum seekers into Australia last year.

Among the victims was a small child, shot through the head.

"It's a big honour," he said. "I wasn't expecting this. It's very humbling."

But monarchist Professor David Flint said it showed a lack of respect.

He said the "most sinister abuses of democracy" included cases where newspapers had withheld information to obtain a commercial advantage.

He says his Adelaide parishioners, Navy personnel, friends and family know him as an honourable and trustworthy chap.

It is not yet known which charities are set to benefit.

They may live in the lucky country but Australians are in denial about their ever-expanding waistlines and claim to be the most unhappy in the world.

Australian diggers are finding themselves exposed on the frontline because their American-made camouflage pants are tearing apart.

But despite such figures the public awareness of the link between alcohol and cancer is low, the coalition says.

"It's a ticking time bomb," says Cassandra Goldie, chief executive of the Australian Council of Social Service.

Hot new planet could be in habitable zone

Astronomers believe they have found a second planet outside our solar system that seems to be in the right zone for life, just barely.

Last week they announced there was no evidence for a criminal investigation into Mr Thomson following an earlier referral by shadow attorney-general George Brandis.

Many eugenicists advocate that criminals and people with low IQs should be stopped from having children.

Senator Xenophon said when a journalist had put the allegation to the third priest, he had giggled and declined to comment on the matter because it was confidential.

However Prime Minister David Cameron has praised the "tough message" that the courts have been handing out.

Overnight commentary on Twitter and Facebook quickly labelled him as the local version of Rebecca Black who found fame with her "so bad, it's good" song Friday.

A witness said: "They hugged as if saying, 'We're finally free'. And then they laughed."

Times have not changed, so with winter on our doorstep why not make a Hungarian goulash or a chicken and lentil stew.

This is smart, sharp comedy from a comedian with one of the most distinctive voices in the game.

Gillard's High Court attack 'out of line'

Ms Gillard and Immigration Minister Chris Bowen are now seeking legal advice to determine how to proceed and their legal options.

"One minute we were sitting next to each other kissing, holding hands and the next minute he was choking," she said at his funeral on Saturday.

He then told her to get in the car, so he could take her to the hospital to see him.

"I thought he was joking, I thought it must have been a rubber one," he said.

It might take a while for his family to be informed, he said.

Instead, he remembered her photo, in storage under the bed.

And that's not the only surprising result.

I wasn't a big fan of the outfit with the boobs in it.

This means land planets could be farther away from their stars and still remain potentially habitable.
