RELIGIOUS leaders have used their Easter sermons and messages to condemn the rise of atheism, with Sydney Anglican Archbishop Peter Jensen describing the philosophy as an "assault on God".
After appearing in many live television shows, he made his Hollywood debut with Cary Grant in Destination Tokyo.
"He is everything but a paedophile,'' lawyer Pierre Houppe, whose arrest was announced by the archbishop of Rouen, said yesterday.
The dropped-trousers trend has been debated in TV shows, city councils, school boards, state legislatures and courtrooms and even decried in song: Larry Platt became an internet sensation earlier this year after he sang his original song "Pants on the Ground" during an audition for the popular singing competition TV show American Idol.
Crunching powerful equations and weighing fresh evidence, an astrobiologist in Britain is pointing the finger at an unusual culprit.
He praised government organisations "paid for by the Christian majority" for helping make the Australian way of life the envy of the world, but noted that atheists sponsored no community services.
Before stripping down to his shoelace underpants, 30-year-old Romanian engineer John Ferraro told The Age of his firm belief.
They are not big enough to inflict global extinctions like the event 62 million years ago that wiped out the dinosaurs, but they could still devastate entire regions.
"Everything that can be done to ameliorate this pending disaster should be commenced immediately by the Queensland government," he said.
Cardinal Pell of St Mary's Cathedral delivered a similar attack on atheism in his Easter message yesterday.
As a euphoric Mr Ferraro splashed around in the river, few could doubt his sincerity.
The attacks were carried out by F16 fighters, the witnesses said.
His unregistered Suzuki 1000 was impounded under anti-hoon legislation until Tuesday, and he was issued with a fine for exceeding the speed limit.
