Berlin brothel goes green to beat the crisis
October 16th 2009 01:01
Stung by the economic crisis, a brothel in Berlin is offering discounts to clients who can prove they arrived with some success.
The Queen and Prince Philip often make incognito trips, but are rarely spotted, a royal aide told London's Evening Standard newspaper.
"In these tight times, we are cutting costs. We've binned the tax advisor, reduced the hours of the cleaning lady and I only buy low-cost cleaning products," she said.
The Queen stunned theatre-goers when she and her husband slipped in unannounced and at the last minute, newspapers reported.
"The crisis has slashed our turnover in half in the last year," the 56-year-old told AFP over coffee and cakes, flanked by scantily clad prostitutes.
"The Queen has regularly undertaken similar private visits throughout her reign without any fuss," the aide said. "It allows her to live a bit more of a normal life."
Another said she was a dietary counsellor in a gym -- "but times are hard". A third said she was a housewife.
When police arrived, 500 people filled the store and another 1000 were outside.
"When they left at the end, they were given a round of applause, which the queen acknowledged with a wave," she said.
The 'establishment' also offers special weekend rates with Jacuzzi options and a "two-for-one" rate.
